Well, it appears they have ticked off the Kansas politicians right now, and as all those promises were being made to stay there, they need to hope they did not make them under oath as part of getting the tanker contract. If they did, there may be a problem if the Kansas delegation is very strong. That being said, with none of the work going offshore, they may get by with it. I guess the Union isn't as strong as the one in Washington State, either that or they haven't gotten to the NLRB yet.

They really screwed the Kansas taxpayers on this one. The millions in tax encentives from the local and state governments and the time and money spent to get the tanker contract. And the b.s. promises of new jobs! . Kansas needs to sue them to get the money back on tax breaks given them!

Is this a union issue, for instance is Wichita heavily unionised?
On another topic, apparently Spirit does work for both Boeing and Airbus.
Do they keep their work completely separate?
What is the ratio of Boeing work to Airbus work in Wichita?
Just curious.

Boeing has 2,100 employees in Wichita. Airbus has about 300 engineers in Wichita, and no production facilities in Wichita.

I think it will all be real interesting to see how it shakes out. You don't know what happened behind the scenes to force a pullout of a place they had been in for decades, kinda like the CONTINENTAL-UNITED DEAL. Who'd thunk of Continenal leaving Houston Hi and Dry as far as the corp. HQ goes. Something will come out in this deal before it is over with. They been in Wichita about as long as they have Washington, and though a chunk, this is not in entirety. They will still maintain a humongous presence there with their commercial stuff. This is just the military side.
One underlying theme in this whole article was the cost of doing business in Wichita. Either they got some real good concession in these other locations or the workforce had progressed in seniority to where they were max'd out on pay and benefits??????????????

I hope they're bluffing. Maybe a new administration not hell-bent on destroying high-technology US jobs might advocate for Wichita. If not, all I can do is sit and watch as my property value goes down due to the mass exodus, coupled with high unemployment. Wichita will be like Detroit before long if this continues.

I don't think a old/new administration will help. No one in the last 5 admins has done anything to stop jobs from being outsourced. All political parties are behind this H1B visa scam. So far. it looks like the work will remain in the US.

More jobs than 2100 will be lost. Many suppliers and service businesses will all close down. Losing Boeing will cripple Wichita.

I don't see this as bluffing..they are closing because of military cuts. And who did that? Obama. He has GOT to be voted out in 2012.

This isn't a bluff. With Obama cutting the military (singlehandedly), Boeing has no choice. We have GOT to vote Obama out in 2012.

I agree with the idea that many jobs are senior thus the pay and benefits are higher but they earned that. Companies often dump the longterm worker with a higher salary in favor of hiring a new employee at lower starting wages.
Also, just because Boeing says for now all of the tanker jobs will stay in the US, can we believe them? They said tanker jobs will be in Wichita, right? And what is located a few miles from San Antonio? MEXICO. Anyone remember the liar Clinton and how NAFTA will create jobs in the US? It's all lies and BS, sadly.

Well, yesterday BHO cut the military, having never worn a uniform, and all the chiefs had to go along with him if they liked their jobs. That may be why there stays such a deadlock in Congress; backbone and common sense, trying to prevail against idocy. Sorry bout that; just couldn't resit it.

I am neither a Dem or Rep, they are both inept or corrupt. Mil spending gets cut and this type of thing gets put in place under the radar during new years eve.
