Petition: Take Aviation User Fees off the table
The aviation community understands the need to raise revenue at a time when we all need to sacrifice, however, this should be done by increasing tax rates on aviation fuel, rather than on a per-flight basis. Problem is, regardless of what fund they say it will go into, it will all go into one pot and spent where needed or wanted by the politicians. A good example is the Highway trust fund; all the fuel& road use taxes that are paid are more than ample to keep our infra stucture maintained, but truckers are lucky if 20% actually goes to the intended purpose(trucks don't pay their fair share nor do all the cars that buy a gallon of gas). The trucking industry has to beg for what is finally passed for a highway bill. It is plundered for mass transit and the like. More than likely the same thing will happen with GA money. Why in the hell do you think the FAA gets hamstrung and begging. Not anywhere near what is paid in fuel taxes goes for actual aviation use.
they already have a system for using ATC it is somewhere close to $17-20 per 100 miles, and 15ish per 100 miles(i believe full route) for international
Excellent post, Zach, the fuel tax and passenger tax is fair and sufficient without creating another overgrown administrative agency (TSA)
The current fuel and Pax tax is sufficient without creating another overgrown federal agency to control and oversee.
