For Air Safety, 400 Geese Are Killed in Brooklyn's Prospect Park
Authorities have been thinning the region’s ranks of Canada geese since two of them flew into the engines of US Airways Flight 1549 in January 2009, forcing it to ditch in the Hudson River. Last summer, 1,200 were rounded up around the city. But the Prospect Park roundup appears to have been the single biggest episode. The goal is to eliminate all of the geese within seven miles of major area airports. I think they could have done this in a better manner. Did they real have to kill all the birds? It a genocide. This is on Par with the Germans attempt to remove the Jews from the fatherland. The only difference is that no one seam to be stopping them. Very sad
Bad PR move but I see the reasoning behind the removal. I just think the birds could have been donated to soup kitchens in the area.
Very sad, could have been handled very differently. I agree with both points......those birds could have fed a lot of people. It is sad, because I grew up hunting those birds, and you never killed one unless you were going to eat it. If I killed 400 birds either in season or out, the same people that did this would have me in jail. No sense to it, although I can also see the reasoning. Just wish they would have pinned the wings on some of the pairs, and left them there for the kids and families to enjoy. Better to take their ability to fly, then their entire life.
We have millions of people in the United States going hungry . The geese should have been processed and given to needy families....
Geese all ready know how to fly if they refuse to stay off the runway go to plan B clip their wings. they do make for good eatin.
They are a pest species - Genocide? Get real!
