I used to see them at Mildenhall every now and then. Security was tight around those aircraft.

Stationed a Offutt AFB and while I was at HQ SAC from '82-'85 they referred to these as "NEACAP", for National Emergency Airborne command Post. A few years earlier, while still enlisted and stationed at Barksdale AFB I was able to tag along on a tanker during the 'shake-down' mission of the first E-4B model being delivered to SAC.

Transferred in from another SAC base and got lost the first time I tried to find my way out of the belly of this beaut.
