Spent two years just outside Chitose at the U.S. Army Security Agency's 12th Field Station in'59-'60 The Japanese Air Self Defense Force had about a squadron of F-86s there, and I can tell you the runway then would never have accomodated a 777. And the tower I see in the background tells me things have changed even more than i would have guessed. Population of all of Hokkaido then, was anout 50,000.
