I just over exposed the shot a bit.

Yep, the autofocus goes a bit snakey when its snowing. Just looked at your photos they are great. I used a D90 Nikon 300mm zoom in manual mode.

Nikon tends to a colder photo, which was good in this case.
If you adjust your levels in photoshop you could get the plane more clearly outlined.
