This is one of my fav aircraft. There are two versions 4 blade and 5 blade, My preference is the 5 blade model. The original engine was the Bristol Centaurus Sleeve valve engine. Not overhead valves, or cams, the sleeve rotates between intake and exhaust, making for a lower engine profile. 18 cylinder 2,625HP, and later versions were rated at 3,220. Max Speed was 460MPH with the 2,525HP engine 1945.
Around a dozen heavily modified Sea Furies are raced regularly at the Reno Air Races as of 2009. Most of these examples were modified to replace the original sleeve-valve Centaurus radial with the Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major or the Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone radial engine.[71] These include Dreadnought and Furias, which have had Wasp Major engines installed
