My 2 cents ... anything they can do to have a predictable cost structure for fuel is probably the most important thing. If they make money it is even better; however, given the volatility in the world the risk of cost overruns in a factory like this is far less then one where you don't know what is going to happen. Plus ... the factory has american workers in an american factory .....

It took 7 years to do a greenfield deployment of the IND airport and $1.1 billion .... and just within the last year or so did they finish the demolition of the old airport ... I can't imagine how long it will take to do this in NY/NJ ..... 20 years?

Oh Boy ... The Devil's Chariot III is now in service ... home of the cramped and uncomfortable coach seats and no overhead bin space for even international carry-ons ..... +-ADT

And add ORD ... and my favorite ever ... EWR ... I don't know what happened over the last 8 months; however, their slide for poor customer service has grown from bad to worse to OMFG .... So maybe instead of investing in all of the technology which they have shown to be poor at implementing ... they should focus on the common sense approach of selling human services ... It is sad to see what I have heard the Old United and what I know the Old Continental devolve into the mess that they are ....

I do agree with the article. The problem comes down to our inability to plan and be disciplined about executing a larger quasi-private enterprise project. The hub-based airlines still remember how to do service; however, the problem is that flying public and our wall street breathern are so focused on quarterly performance that we now have the race to the bottom facilities. Personally, I would love to see a carrot and stick approach made where airlines with major "hub" presence get credits and breaks in the facilities they help maintain, and the point-to-point carriers get forced to pay extra fee's. As for building airports, we can do it in the country look at how IND was considered the #1 airport in the Americas? They planned out a whole new terminal over a long period of time and executed to plan. IND has the luck of being able to have the spare land to do this work; however, it had less resources to do it. +-ADT

I agree with you ... having flown out of their multiple times, they are unprofessional and inconsistent. The best encounters I have had interestingly enough was with IND. I had a nice discussion with the Indiana TSA Director after I wrote a letter about service times at the gates with the body scanners and they actually implemented a suggestion I made ... I was amazed. +-ADT

To those that say ... suck it up and/or drive... you realize that you support the terrorists more when you drive due to the oil burn .... or better yet ... lets have your daughter/son, wife, mother, grandmother get groped right in front of you weekly ... then lets see what you have to say ... Also ... usually folks that say that the majority don't actually use the services ... I fly weekly, and have "sucked" it up ... realizing my "search and seizure rights" were being violated ... and I do it because I have no choice because I do have to work ... +-ADT
