Capt. Zoe Kotnik, the first female pilot to head the F-16 Viper demonstration team, was relieved of command. “Col. Derek O’Malley, 20th Fighter Wing commander, relieved Capt. Zoe Kotnik from command Feb. 11 due to a loss of confidence in her ability to lead and command the Air Combat Command F-16 Viper demonstration team,” said Col. As a Marine Fighter pilot (now retired) I failed to read anywhere why she was relieved of command due to her flying ability.

I have seen many a gent at the club blow a career over booze, over comments about the Command so-on-so-forth even had a buddy relieved of command over a joke about Clinton just after he was elected as POTUS. The sad part is Skip was right Clinton did end up screwing females in the Oval Office so the joke was spot on you just can't say that about the new C in C.

A relief is a kiss of death for the career so now she will quietly resign her commission and end up flying for an Airlines.

And to the jerk who said this is waste of Tax Dollars you are far from wrong. It has been proven time and time again this and other recruiting tools, as well as PR, is well worth the investment the Military puts in with your tax dollars (BTW that is several GAO reports not my remarks on the tax dollars spent on these shows.)

You should worry less about her ovaries and more about why you're so desperate for attention.

I love the down votes. The reality is, a MAN not keeping a position is not news. The fact is that only ovaries set this person aside. Best I can tell, if it was a trans-genter' it would not be allwoed to be news.

Then again, ia am ALL FOR women NOT serving in the front lines of any conflict. Simply, the reality is they are not as strong as men - period. Or, when exactly will it be some woman is going to tighten her tampon and compete against the men in Football/Baseball/Hockey/Cycling/Track and Field/Marathon....

Then, we get last years 'female' champion track cyclist (in full possession of a penis all -her- life).

Now, off to make sure that for Valentines day my other half is scrubbing the floors and washing dishes so she can cook diner.........

WOW...YOU CANNOT TAKE A HINT, CAN YOU...ENOUGH OF YOUR POLITICAL CRAP!!
BTW...It's F14 PILOT not DRIVER!!!!!
RECOR10

Oddly, a surgeon who I work with refers to himself CLEARLY as an F14 "Driver", another who flew C130's" "Driver", My brother who flies CH46's assisting in killing rag heads in Trashcanistan to this day? "Driver"...even the guy who flies my families Citation will call himself a "Driver".

Now, if we could only get the might of the United States Military to take out most of Southern Californa's elected officials. I can assure you, they would like to.

Quick note: the only person I know who demands to be called "pilot" is the guy who brings our boat from the harbor to the seaway.

If you went and saw one of the demonstrations you might change your mind. They are going to spend the money either way so we might as well get something out of it.

Doing an airshow could be construed as training...whether they do it in front of people makes no difference, except the people get to see some admirable flying!
It's also called Military/Air Force PR...makes Joe public understand their roles better, and give Joe public opportunity to ask questions.

A man I work with who happened to be an F14 driver had the prospective that it was good recruitment tools for fliers...he would always preface that with "Almost as good as the movie Top Gun" (a movie his ride was in a time or two, with him at the helm).

Taylor - ALL of the military is "on the tax payer's dime". It is the biggest Socialist program in the US. The budget for the military is bigger than the top 20 other developed countries spend combined. The Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds are but a drop in the bucket.

Agreed! Airshows happen during long weekends sporting events and holidays to demonstrate the equipment and skills a professional military requires on a full time basis. You don't see jets blasting through public airspace for the heck of it and have jolly goog time with it. There is nothing better than going to an airshow to watch the pros on a summer day.

As as side note to your complaint, the amount spent on demonstration teams, whatever that amount is, is a so tiny compared to the national debt that the target of your complaint needs to be reassessed. Looks towards all the "unfunded liabilities" on usdebtclock dot gov.

I understand, it appears that you want no money spent on anything military. Your issue is not with the money, it leans toward the military. We have bigger problems.

Taylor - Oh, so because they do nothing for you, you believe they do nothing for anyone? Do you believe that for your particular religion, too? You are not part of an egocentric universe. You are but one small grain of sand.

Taylor - Out of curiosity, oh, wise one, how MUCH money does it cost the government?

FYI, long-term, groups like The Thunderbirds actually save the government quite a pile of money as recruiting young people into the military spikes whenever these groups appear at air shows and other events.

It might help if you learn before you make blind assumptions.

In CANADA the RCAF AERIAL DEMONSTRATION TEAM FLIES THE CIRCUIT WITH OTHER HIGHLY ESTEEMED TEAMS LIKE THE THUNDERBIRDS, BLUEAGELS AN A-10 GATLING GUN ON THE A-10. OUR SNOW BIRDS FLY THE SAME SHOWS AS THE OTHERS MENTIONED. ONE NOTE:ONE RESPONDER SAID ITS A GREAT TOOL FOR RECRUITING. ALL DISPLAYS HAVE A HAPPY RECRUITER STANDING BY AND THEY ARE THE BUSIEST PEOPLE AT THE SHOW.

Have you ever considered that this "machine" does a lot more than fight wars. Do you realize the only way to suffering help civilians in
in disaster zones where the military fly, sets up hospitals, train the local residents about sanitation. It's not all guns bombs and bullets
We also train locals in sanitation, water purifiers, and full operating rooms not forgetting the thousands of people the military trains basic medical procedures.
