1,700 Private Jets Fly To Davos To Discuss Global Warming

נשלח לפני

The influx of private jets is so great, the Swiss Armed Forces has been forced to open up a military air base for the first time ever to absorb all the super rich flying their private jets into the event, reports Newsweek. (www.breitbart.com) עוד...

And what is the carbon footprint of all those flights?

I love sarcastic humor. We know the anointed ones wouldn't set foot in a Cessna. Lol

I find a sad truth to that statement.

over a half century ago, President Eisenhower coined the term "Military-Industrial Complex". I think this has now been fully replaced by the "Uber Liberal-Climate Change Complex".

Davos hosts the World ECONOMIC Forum, not a climate change forum. Breitbart, as always, is spinning this to attack liberals when in fact it's a meeting of the 1% to further increase their wealth.

They know how to sell a misleading headline, don't they? If someone were curious about what's going on there, it'd probably better to turn to an actual source of information, such as the organizing group itself:

Climate change is on the agenda: https://agenda.weforum.org/2015/01/your-day-by-day-guide-to-davos-highlights/

Did you notice that the forum was on climate change, development, and growth? In other words, they're talking about how these issues relate together -- the economics of the situation. Nothing in there suggests that it's any kind of forum on climate change itself.

There's no way this can be spun into a story on a climate change discussion, except as a deliberately misleading headline on a substantially less than reliable "news" site. It certainly doesn't deserve the absurd attention it's getting here.

In defending an indefensible position, you seem to miss the point completely: that the creed of the limousine liberals is, "Do as I say, not as I do." If they really care about global warming, could they not fly commercial, which would have reduced their carbon footprint for the trip by more than 90%? In the military we called it, "leading by example." I actually support private flights, and even their right to make those flights. Like many pilots here, I have done more than my share of piloting my own aircraft, but at least my views and actions are not duplicitous. Please don't try to defend such an absurdly hypocritical position.

You act like you didn't deny it had anything to do with climate change well. I nominate James Carlson for the 2016 Democrat ticket!

That's right. Don't bother to visit the original sources. Just use ad-hominem attacks.

Well done.

I will need to reply to your ad hominem attack on me with the facts that I pointed out in my original post. Quotes are all yours: "Did you notice that the forum was on climate change, development, and growth?" And then two sentences later (you can't make this stuff up): "Nothing in there suggests that it's any kind of forum on climate change itself." Don't believe everything you hear! "...it'd probably be better to turn to an actual source of information, such as the organizing group itself:..." Really? So if I wanted to know the truth about the 1700 private jets and climate change (and other hypocritical topics), I should turn to the group itself? Ughh....No.

Breitbart got the 1,700 figure from a Newsweek article. Newsweek later printed: "Correction: This article originally stated that 1,700 private jets would be flying to Davos. That figure was later found to be based on incorrect data. There are in fact expected to be around 1,100 extra plane 'movements' (arrivals and departures) at Zurich airport, but only an extra 550 private jets."

Breitbart has so far not updated its article.

550 is still a lot, but I'll bet the 1,700 number is the one that sticks in people's minds.

It is fascinating to watch Breitbart.com, that pinnacle of journalistic integrity, turn a story about people trying to save the environment into a hit job. But alas, this is who they are.

I do appreciate the irony, though. But if you're going to have a meeting, the participants need to get there somehow.

You're discounting commercial airlines? 1700 private jets! No one could double up? No one could fly commercial? Give me a break.

They could but they are there to discuss impositions on others, not themselves.

Affirmed. It'd incredible to me how many are duped over this one very expensive topic and they are all willing to dig in their wallets to give away their subsistence. They won't think vey highly of it when 60% of their income is handed to the power companies.

They are not meeting to discuss "global warming" because that cannot be controlled by human activity. They are meeting to discuss global taxation. Planetary science is the boogey man few people can understand so it is perfect for telling the masses you'll all die if we don't control this. It has all the earmarks of a religion with people spouting from a pulpit "save yourself, give me your money."

What I find interesting on the aviation side of this meeting every year is that a high number of these 10 to 20 place aircraft arrive with 4 flight attendants. Usually there are no FA's on these planes. What to all these young ladies do during the meeting? Do they polish the nacelles or rub rich emollients into the leather?

"“Decision-makers meeting in Davos must focus on ways to reduce climate risk while building more efficient, cleaner, and lower-carbon economies,” former Mexican president Felipe Calderon told USA Today."

This remark from an ex pres of a country run by a sham of a government who's biggest influence is drug lords and we're supposed to believe he's interested in carbon. Hell, all our plants left the US to manufacture there to escape the EPA.
