Boeing flies the 787-9 Dreamliner for the first time and is getting ready for 787-10 production
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner took to the skies for the first time on Sept. 17, beginning a comprehensive flight-test program leading to certification and delivery in mid-2014. Boeing also announced it is getting ready for 787-10 production. The newest member of the 787 family completed a 5-hour, 16-minute flight, taking off from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., at 11:02 a.m. local time and landing at 4:18 p.m. at Seattle’s Boeing Field. The 787-9 is the stretched version of the 787-8, seating up to 40 passengers over the smaller one. It is 20 feet longer, although it is not the longest variant of the Dreamliner family — the upcoming 787-10 takes the title. The aircraft currently has 388 firm orders.
