Qatar Airways launches world's longest flight
Flight QR920 left the Qatari capital at 05:02 (0202 GMT) and is set to land in New Zealand at 07:30 local time on Monday (1830 GMT). The Boeing 777 flight will take 16 hours and 20 minutes, pass over 10 time zones, five countries and travel 14,535 kilometres (9,032 miles) before reaching Auckland. So who thought up the title...it's not the world's longest flight, or even the world's longest flight unrefueled.
Don't understand why airlines brag about having the longest torture session. Any air travel longer than 4 hours in economy class is a miserable experience.
I travel to Manila, Philippines from New York frequently with Philippines Airlines (PAL). The PAL 777 300 stops over at Vancouver, then to Manila, 16 hours average time. Don't know why they can't go direct with the 777, in fact, PAL claims they need the A350 for nonstop flight from New York to Manila - sounds like an excuse based on politics.
Anyway, PAL is notorious for its horrible quality of services, I've experienced this to be true. But, when booking a flight, seat selection is open, consequently, picking a flight with a high probability of getting an empty adjacent seat is great!
So, my point, "World's Longest Flight" claim is useless without information about passengers well being...

Dick Rutan flew further by far...who thinks up these titles?
World's toughest economy class passengers.
I've done a 14+ hour flight from Hong Kong to Amsterdam; the economy seating isn't that bad due to removal of rows to allow for maximum fuel. It is quite annoying to watch several movies, eat a meal and still have many hours of flight time remaining. Not sure how they make money since fuel doesn't pay any airfare.
Bit of a wanking match going on between QR and EK about the longest flight between Doha/Dubai and AKL..comments welcomed..
