I can assure you as a current F/A-18 pilot, this maneuver is legitimate. It can probably only be accomplished by the top 1% of all navy pilots due to its extreme difficulty. This video is really well done; nice job!!

Approach does not mean landing. They are separate parts. I think the key phrase is "approach to carrier break" and (then) landing.

I cant wait for this sequester issue to be over with so us dreamers can go see some awesome aerial ballet at our local military airfields. Mine being JBMDL.

Yes, sailors call their "ships" boats and laugh at people who give them the "ship" lecture And, and except for the quick speed in the break this is a normal carrier landing with a bad soundtrack.

Um, going to have to call BS on this one. Landing any aircraft on a Carrier (which is a ship, not a boat) at 650mph would undoubtedly destroy much of the arrester gear on both vessel and aircraft. The lack of an erected crash barrier on the Carrier points more to this being a routine landing than a "shit hot brake"

Naval Aviators often refer to the carrier as "The Boat." The "Shit Hot Break" refers to the tight turn which is used to very quickly scrub airspeed, although making the turn to port is fairly uncommon.

Hiya Jeremey...which navy are you talking about?

Left traffic is standard at the boat.

If you parse the sentence (a lot to ask these days, I know), you'll see that no one said anything about landing at 650 mph.

And don't go telling people what to call the boat if you don't know what a break (again, it's break) is.

Yep. The slats being extended points to the airspeed being much lower than 650 mph.

Have to agree with GONY...no way you land at 650...unless you are going around. Might touch the gear...but those cables cant stop 650mph.

My bad should have read everything....just did a hot break at 650....probably landed at 130 - 140. Sorry should have watched and read it.
