An experimental system, to see if it works and brings value? Surely you jest. UA has been successfully doing same thing for years. Nonstory!
Yeah, what they describe as "new technolology" sounds to me an awful lot like just "math," i.e., Let X = estimated cost of accomodating passengers who will miss their connection. Let Y = estimated cost of downstream delays from delaying the flight. If X > Y, delay the flight.
(Obviously it's a lot more complex that that in real life, due to the number of variables involved).

It is to their benefit because missed flights means missed Revenue! They are not doing it for us.. they are doing it to save money!
