Crane lifts helicopter off UAB Hospital roof in Birmingham
Watch as crews hoist a helicopter off the helipad at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Med-trans, the owner of the helicopter, released the following statement about why the aircraft is being lifted by crane:
"In an abundance of caution, a Med-Trans air medical transport Bell 407GX helicopter currently atop the UAB Hospital in Birmingham is being lifted by crane from the helicopter landing pad and transported by truck to a company maintenance facility for evaluation and repair. The ShandsCair 5 helicopter, based in Panama City, Fla., landed Sunday April 28 at the Birmingham, Ala. hospital and unloaded its patient and the two-person medical crew. When the pilot restarted the aircraft to leave for refueling, an engine performance warning light was illuminated. The pilot shut down the engine as a safety precaution, and the company made plans to remove the aircraft and transport to its maintenance facility today. The area is being served by another Med-Trans helicopter until the repairs are made, which is expected to occur by May 3."
