Southwest plane slides off runway after landing at Omaha airport; no one injured

The incident shut down the Eppley Airfield airport and all flights were suspended Friday afternoon.

OMAHA, Neb. — A Southwest airplane landing at the Omaha airport slid off the end of a runway Friday afternoon, but no injuries were reported, according to officials.

The incident shut down the Eppley Airfield airport and all flights were suspended Friday afternoon. The flight, No. 1643 from Las Vegas, slid onto a runway overrun area after landing and while taxiing to the terminal, according to a statement from Southwest Airlines.

Airport crews were working with Southwest to deplane passengers from the aircraft and take them to the terminal.

The Omaha World-Herald was reporting that freezing drizzle was making roads and other surfaces slick across the area. Temperatures there were hovering around 20 degrees.
