What's the history of this plane ?

John: This aircraft was the winner of the 1934 MacRobertson air race from England - Mildenhall RAF Airbase & home for many USAAF squadrons - to Flemington Race Track in Melbourne Australian - home of horse racing's Melbourne Cup.
