The C-124 brings back memories of the first air show I was involved in. It was while I was still a teenager (way too many years ago) and in Civil Air Patrol in Florida. I did some of the show and tell, after a good briefing, for this type aircraft at the air show. It was at Opa-Locka Airport in FL, in the early 1960s.

Alan Brown I think it is great that the photo stirred the grey cells and taking you back so many years.

Wow, great photo, I have way to much time in "Old Shakey" between Hickam, Wake and Tachikawa. And there really was a shark named "Mag-Check-Charlie" at the end of the runway on Wake Island. I saw him many times swimming back and forth as we took off. Lots and Lots of Old Shakey stories. We named our's "Willie Makit"

Excellent B&W photo Kurt. I used to see Globemasters at BFI - King County Airport Seattle in the late 1950s, early 60 as they were always at Boeing dropping something off or picking up stuff. This one appears to have the Intl orange nose color - I saw those quite a bit, in that color scheme.5*

This is a great shot. Back in the day the C-124's would fly in an out of McChord AFB south of Tacoma. We lived along the path for landing and those critters would shake all the glassware when they came in. Cool!

CaptainDL ... Noting this aircraft as an "A" model (round prop tips) 51-0151 (I actually flew in this aircraft and her sister ships), it was most likely one that was stationed at KTCM during the 60's wherein I spent a few years as a Navigator (7th TCS) crossing the pond as you mentioned (KTCM-KSUU-PHIK-PWAK-PGUA-RPMK and POINTS WEST). Stationed at RJTC 64-67 with lots of "in-country" time RODN, etc. I spent 8 years in her until I transferred from KSRF to KSUU C-141's. Probably have a few names in common with you.

Gary Olson Read your comments , noted the comment on the props and have corrected the model designation. Joe Baugher pages mention the conversion from an "A" to a "C" but not the date of the conversion

AF ROTC days got a ride out of McCord AFB on a C124 (in 1960); still don't believe it can fly...
