Bright and shiny as always.
They flew into Berlin Tempelhof in Pan Am livery while I was stationed there with the Air Force in the 1960s. They were the American provider of passenger air service into and out of “The Island City.” The other two allowed Western carriers were British European Airways with their Vickers Viscount turboprop aircraft, which also flew to T’hof. Air France flew their beautiful Caravelle pure jet aircraft to Tegel in the French sector. All Eastern Blocy service was through Schönefeld in the Soviet-controlled sector.
All aircraft, civilian carriers and military traffic as well were required to follow one of the 3 aviation corridors into Berlin. Straying outside those corridors could lead to an unpleasant encounter with MiGs. It happened while I was there and it resulted in the shoot down of an Air Force T-47.
