Long time no see , Good to se it again
I'm not sure if it the same plane. One of these 747's is on display at the Blackbird Air Museum in Palmdale, CA. I couldn't figure out how to post the picture with this comment (not as a separate post).
I've worked on this bird. I came to Dee Howard Co. in San Antonio for some maintenance. It's cool to see the inside completely gutted. You can see from to top to the bottom skins through the floor beams! Crane beams criss-cross the inside where the Shuttle mounts connect to transfer the loads through the airframe and to the center wing box structure.
I wonder what happened to these beautiful machines?

Preserved Clear Lake City, Houston, United States 29 Apr 2014 at the Space Center Houston with a replica Space Shuttle mounted to it (29°33'7.42"N 95° 5'49.84"W) - planespotters.net
Was just on this airplane at Johnson Space Center in Houston... And yes it is a cool as it looks here, even on the ground.
@Juan Martinez Both are preserved and on display. The one pictured here is part of an attraction at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. (https://tinyurl.com/shuttlecarrieraircraft1) There is a mockup of a space shuttle on top that is modified so you can see a show inside the cargo bay. You can also go into the cock pit. The aircraft had to be disassembled at the airport to be able to travel to the space center, and then reassembled. The second one is on display at the Joe Davies Heritage Airpark in Palmdale, California (https://tinyurl.com/shuttlecarrieraircraft2).
Preserve,protect,and defence...
Long time ago...
Saw similar on a low pass at YUL (except T-38) many many years ago! Took the security stairs to the roof to watch! Impressive regardless of when. Two now-gone giants of the past. 747 and Shuttle.
I actually have a similar photo (taken around 1976) in my archives. The photo I have was taken at Edwards AFB while testing the Enterprise piggy-back a 747 and shows the Enterprise just being released from the 747. Interesting fact, outside of the comment posted earlier that the plane was gutted to carry the shuttle ... the weight of the shuttle was actually less than the weight of the 747 when it is filled with passengers and luggage!
Joseph, we're you flying one of the escort planes?
The t38 on the other side
I have some pictures like this when it visited RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire in the UK around about 1982. It certainly was an unusual sight. No T38 chase plane unfortunately.
