Union: Allegiant Air pilot fired after St. Pete-Clearwater emergency landing

Guess Allegiant forgot the Captain is the person responsible for safety of his flight. Flight attendants told him they smelled smoke. Whether there actually was a problem or not he did the right thing. Better to solve the problem on the ground than at 33,000 ft. Bad move on Allegiant's part assuming there were no other previous problems with the pilot that was fired and especially coming on the same day Baden performed his screw-up at Fargo.

I am not normally pro union BUT, if there is no more than this to the story, then the Airline is wrong and the Union should fight to overturn the firing. Captain is sole authority in this type situation and should not really be questioned.

This is why there are Airline Pilot Unions.
Also Allegiant ought to be MORE then careful and considerate before getting so heavy handed with Pilots when Allegiant's management pilots are so far out of whack already.

And those who remember a flight years ago that had a minor fire in the lav and didn't react immediately. The flight crashed killing everyone. On that one had the crew reacted quickly even to the point of a controlled off airport landing very possibly some would have survived. as it was most passengers died a slow death before the crash.
