You signed in as an ATP - may I assume you are better at reading and understanding ATC clearances than you were about what this particular "thread" is about ?

Not clear how you got the idea that my PILOT'S WEATHER HANDBOOK is the edition for our "participant-flyer-aviation enthusiasts". For one thing, since it is devoted to technical matters involving weather issues of primary concern to those of us actually engaged in flight operations. I suspect no-one would bother drafting a separate version for "participants-flyers'aviation enthusiasts. That's based on my hunch that most of them are in here to socialize, be seen, with little interest in actual flight operation issues.

I remain curious about the subject-matter of this thread. The tragedy makes me wonder - has there been a lowering of standards since I met my very first AME? He diagnosed me as having a "color vision defiency". I was restricted to "DAY" operations only, until I was able to schedule a special "medical flight test check-ride" with a FISDO examiner. I passed, and now have a "waiver" ( was able to demonstrate, amongst other things, I can distinguish light-signal colors.

What can YOU tell us about YOUR experience with your vision exam during your last session with an AME ? Are you able to add to "bentwing's" comments or interpet them for us ?
